Welcome to "The Resilient Leader" weekly video, providing inspiration and encouragement to leaders. I'm your host, Charlotte Edwards. Let's get started with today's message.

This week's topic: don't waste the setback.

No one enjoys setbacks. We'd all rather succeed the first time. Well, if we're honest, we want to succeed every time. But when things don't go as planned, many of us make a big mistake. We withdraw, we become discouraged, we lose confidence, or we simply try to forget it ever happened. And in doing so, we waste the setback. How? By missing what it came to teach us.

Every setback has the potential to make us wiser, stronger, and better prepared for what's next, but only if we're willing to learn from it. Don't waste the setback.

Setbacks reveal. Pressure has a way of exposing what's beneath the surface. Setbacks reveal gaps in our preparation, weaknesses in our systems, attitudes that need attention, habits that need strengthening. We often learn more about ourselves during adversity than we do during success.

Setbacks also refine. Growth is rarely comfortable. Just as fire refines gold, adversity refines leaders. Setbacks develop qualities success rarely does. What kind of qualities? Humility, perseverance, patience, empathy, resilience. The very things that make us better leaders are often forged during our most difficult seasons.

And finally, setbacks redirect. Sometimes a setback isn't stopping you, it's steering you. A closed door may lead to a better opportunity. A failed plan may uncover a better strategy. A disappointment may protect you from something you couldn't even see. Not every delay is denial. Sometimes it's direction. The setback becomes valuable when we're willing to follow where it's leading.

So as we close today, think about a setback you've experienced recently. What has this revealed about you? What has it been refining in you? Where might this be redirecting you? Don't waste the setback. It's an opportunity to shape the leader you're becoming.

Take care, my friends, and have an amazing week.
