Hello, and welcome back to "The Resilient Leader," my friends. This is Charlotte, your weekly host. This week's topic, built to adapt.

Have you ever noticed how quickly things can change? One moment everything's moving according to plan, and the next moment you're forced to adjust on the fly. Maybe a meeting gets canceled, a client changes direction, technology fails, travel plans shift, a team member drops the ball, or an unexpected obstacle shows up out of nowhere.

And in those moments, your leadership is tested. Learning how to adjust, adapt, or we could say pivot, is essential as a leader. It's very valuable in our leadership skills to build that. Helen Keller said, "A bend in the road is not the end of the road, unless you fail to make the turn."

So as you come upon needing to adapt, challenges come in front of you, I want to share a few things that could help you.

First off, stay calm before you solve. One of the greatest leadership skills is learning how to respond without reacting emotionally. When obstacles appear, panic clouds judgment, but calm leaders create clarity. The goal is not to pretend the obstacle doesn't exist. The goal is to avoid letting the obstacle control you. Your team watches your response more than the problem itself. Resilient leaders pause, think, assess, and then they move forward.

Another tip is to focus on the next best step. When things go sideways, don't get stuck focusing on everything that's wrong. Instead, ask, "What is the next best step I can take right now?" Not the entire solution, just the next right step. Small adjustments can create major breakthroughs when handled consistently.

And the final tip, adaptability is a critical leadership skill. Often leadership strength looks like adaptability. Smart leaders understand that everything will not always go according to plan. Unexpected obstacles, changing priorities, and difficult moments are all a part of our leadership journey. In many ways, the obstacles we're faced with, the adjustments we've made, and the difficult moments we've worked through have shaped us into who we are today. And sometimes the unexpected obstacle becomes the very thing that develops your creativity, your resilience, and your leadership abilities.

In closing today, when things don't go according to plan, don't lose heart. Take a deep breath, refocus, adjust where needed, and keep moving forward. Remember, some of the greatest growth moments in your leadership are developed in the unexpected moments, in the pivots that you have to make. Because it's not the obstacle that defines you. It's how you respond to it.

John Wooden said, "Flexibility is the key to stability." All right, my friends, have an amazing week.
